Cyber Essentials aims to help organisations implement basic levels of protection against cyber attack. It is a government-backed cyber security certification scheme that sets out a baseline of cyber security suitable for all organisations. The scheme has the five security controls shown below.
To demonstrate to our customers that we take cyber security seriously Flint IT have taken the necessary steps to become certified as part of the Cyber Essentials scheme. And because we already took security seriously the changes we needed to make were minimal and we hope to go on to certify to the next level of Cyber Essentials Plus.
The five basic controls within Cyber Essentials were chosen because, when properly implemented, they help to protect against internet-based attackers using commodity capabilities which are freely available on the internet.
Since 1 October 2014, Cyber Essentials became a minimum requirement for bidding for some government contracts (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/procurement-policy-note-0914-cyber-essentials-scheme-certification).
